Is It Really New?

As one more year ends, and a new one begins, I’m wondering why I just don’t feel all that different.   And, why I haven’t formally acknowledged this feeling before – it’s not a “new” feeling.  I do enjoy all the hoopla, all the glitz and preparation for starting a new year.  I appreciate all the flash backs of things that happened in the previous year, and goodness, a year is full of so much it is nice to be reminded – yes, a year can be packed with all kinds of happenings.  It often, to me, feels like more than 365 days – it feels forever in length.  But, New Year’s Day just doesn't seem all that different from other days – oh, sure, one doesn't view the Tournament of Roses’ Parade but once a year – that is definitely a phenomenal feat.  Some things are closed, many are not – many people have the day off, true, but many do not – many more travel, many don’t.   I think I keep hoping to feel as if a New Year, and the first day of the year, will change all the old nasty stuff that happened and bring new positive things.  It is just a frame of mind.  We humans, though, like pomp and circumstance, like celebrations to commemorate various events.  The New Year’s Eve bash is so traditional.  I do like tradition.  But, I still don’t feel that much different than I felt the previous day.  (I am not talking about hang-overs.)   I've seen many new years  - that have, thus, ended up being old years – and, I truly am grateful for that.  Maybe I’m saying that I just want to feel more hopeful that a new year will provide better chances for all of us, less greed, less hate, less strife. We need challenges, but man-made catastrophes?  Sometimes it seems as if we end up in the same old same old just the day after.   Hope is the magic word, and that is what I am sending to you.  Of course hope is not new, but it is continual.  Couple that with a huge helping of gratitude and maybe this New Year will actually bring the miracles we all want.  Here’s to happiness within (and without.)

It is the season,
To celebrate the reason
For peace and good will.

Lot’s to do, lot’s done.
Time doesn't wait for anyone.
So, do what you can.

Hustle, bustle, move.
Keeping the seasonal beat,
Shop, wrap, bake, cook, decorate.

From my house to yours, Happy Holidays!
