Stop, Think!

Stop this, stop this rhetoric that divides - these vitriolic words.  We need to step back and rationally evaluate.  We, in this U.S.A, need to remember our history and the First Amendment to our Constitution.  So, to me, it is incumbent upon all of us to be intelligent, to be lucid and to be wise about this situation.  We need to live up to our standard, stop this sensationalizing, this bickering; come together to fight the factions that could defeat us.  Get all of the facts first, and please be careful what you say before you say it – listen to your own words.  Let’s not let fear take over and become more irrational, a people governing based on that fear.  I think some of the words spewing from those who wish to gain our trust are just despicable. This sensationalism and division is what our opponents want.  We are all humans and “… endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” *

The U.S. has raised its own terrorists, remember Oklahoma City?  (And, that is only one case of terrorism and radicalism having been fostered by citizens born in this country.)  All of us need to be more responsible and understanding; we need to stop demonizing before we know the facts.  We all should be together in this war against terrorism threatening the very freedoms for which we stand.  Radicalism wins when we allow fear to take over and we forget humanitarianism. (If fear prevails, is the next step internment or forcing some people to wear a type of demarcation?)   It is natural to want to protect, but let’s do this equitably – let’s not deny freedoms from those hoping for asylum.  Let’s not single out peoples just because they come from one country (and are running from a radical, terroristic “leadership” that has turned on its own citizens.)  We already have stringent citizenship processes, let’s make sure they work.  In this age of technology, fear mongering seems to be rampant.  Reason needs to succeed.  Together we can win, divided we could fall.

Journey

(Along with many other folks, I've been pensive lately.  I'm remembering a time when I was writing more "poetry" because it was something that helped quiet my mind.  The following is one written during that time.)

The trip has seemed long,
Getting closer, getting strong.
Taken paths circuitously,
And many not so carefully.
Always wanting some guiding light,
Just to be sure the choice was right.
Constantly peddling forward,
Often moving backward.
Making the same mistakes,
Experiencing many heartaches.
Reasons, though, for every choice,
Perhaps responding to an inner voice.
Facing challenges, learning to cope,
Wanting to recreate hope.
Acknowledging experience gained,
Realizing only One should lead unrestrained.
The struggle has long been,
The war between the head and heart,
Learning to discern the better part,
To find the soul within.
